The first Paranormal Convention in Calgary happened this last weekend. It was put on by Calgary & Banff Ghost Tours run by Johanna Lane. The event was held in the Globe Theatre.
We were happy to have been invited to the event and thrilled to present 2 talks on paranormal subjects. On Saturday it was “What The *Bleep# Is In My House” and on Sunday it was “Understanding Paranormal Phenomena”.
We were able to meet some new people and make plans to investigate various places with Robyn Condon who specializes in capturing EVP’s.
On Saturday, I saw 4 spirits in the theatre: a lady with dark hair in an updo bun in a yellow ball gown. She said she had “showed up for a show but this is not the show she had planned on coming to”. There was a man in his 30’s on the opposite wall and had workman’s overalls and a smirk on his face. He was doing a back and forth motion with his body against the wall. Then there were 2 spirits of children jumping up and down trying to get the presenter Crystal Johannson to pay attention to them.
Ben and I enjoyed ourselves in Calgary and were lucky to have been joined by some friends from Edmonton who came down to the convention.
Thank-you to Johanna for setting up this great first time convention and here’s looking forward to next year’s ParaCon!!!!

CTV Edmonton Morning Show
CTV News.ca Interview with Paranormal Rona
My first stop on Halloween morning was at CTV studios to be interviewed by Stacey Brotzel. She had great questions for me and it was a fun show.
Virgin Morning Show with Ian & Chelsea
Ian & Chelsea
My second stop was at Virgin Radio Edmonton studio to be interviewed by Ian and Chelsea. It was pretty hilarious and it unfortunately didn’t go as long as we wanted. Time is money for the radio shows!
My third and last stop was at The Bear Radio studio featuring Yukon Jack, Scott McCord, and Ryan Maier. I thought these guys were skeptics and were really going to grill me, but I had a nice surprise with their openess to the paranormal and sharing their story and opinions on it.
Coming this November 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2017; the first Calgary ParaCon!!. Being held at the haunted Globe Theatre.

Calgary ParaCon on Facebook
Date: June 5th, 2008
Client: Miss “J” – Aboriginal female student of sociology
Location: Near downtown Edmonton, Alberta
Got a phone call from a young lady who kept experiencing something evil trying to “get under her skin”.
When I arrived at her apartment I found an animal spirit in the apartment – large cat. Cougar? Lynx? I think the animal was a totem spirit and was positive.
Sat across from “J” and went into my meditative state. I saw an awful looking apparition, almost like a Halloween costume. He was floating outside the apartment window in tattered black clothes; a partial skeleton with skin hanging off his bones. Horrific looking. He was patiently waiting for me to leave, which I wasn’t going to do.
I could see he had exposed bone on his fingers which is what he was probably poking at her with. He wanted to possess her skin!!! So what he was doing was using the tips of his fingers to try and gouge under her skin because that’s how he thought he could take her skin from her. I told her I could see him trying to dig under the top of her thighs and knees. She said that was exactly where she felt the awful sharp touching.
I opened the portal and of course he did not want to go into the light. So, a higher power sucked him in. There was an unearthly scream (of course, he was a wraith, he was going to scream like that) and he was gone. Felt the closure of the portal and the room lit up for just a second for me.
Miss “J” had an orange aura appearing around her head. I taught her how to create a protective light barrier around herself.
Note – I had to make a second trip to Miss “J’s” place because for some unexplained reason, she was not ready to let go of this phenomena. Of course the wraith-like thing didn’t come back (once the spirits get sent into the light, they cannot come back to haunt the person again, only loved ones can come back), but she was lonely and wanted some kind of company, even if it was horrifying to her. She decided she was going to go back up north to her home town and be with her family after school was over and do community work up there.
Why do some people see spirits while others never have a paranormal experience in their lives? We get asked this a lot. We don’t have a “scientific” answer for it.
Some people have different abilities such as hearing spirits talk (clairaudient), feeling spirits around or near them (clairsentience), smelling scents or things which are not physically there (clairalience).
I (Paranormal Rona) am able to “see” spirits, sometimes with my eyes open, but usually the eyes are closed. I get a little bursts of information from them and a general, albeit sometimes hazy image, of what they look like. I will have a new article coming up explaining how different people see spirits.
I have been seeing, hearing and feeling spirits ever since I was a wee child. I had an “imaginary friend” but actually it was a spirit of a man who I used to talk to when I was 2-3 years old. Children don’t have that blockage that we adults form. We try to rationalize incidents and occurrences where strange paranormal and spooky stuff happens. Children just accept what they see at face value. Autistic children have an amazing ability to connect with spirits. The majority have psychic abilities and they aren’t fearful of the spirit world.
Parents should be more open to what their children are telling them. If a child wakes up in the night and says “there is a man standing in the corner of my room” there is a great possibility that one is.We dismiss incidents like that so quickly. Because we don’t see it for ourselves, or our religious or scientific beliefs forbid something like that, we tell our kids to “stop making things up” or “there’s no such thing”.
It’s confusing and upsetting when no one will believe that you have seen some dark lurking entity in the corner of your bedroom and also, there is no one who will help get rid of it!! Subsequently, SOME children will develop the ability to totally block any spirit communication that happens, and thus when they are adults, do not experience any paranormal events.
There will be children who will adapt and continue to see ghosts AND even be able to filter what and when they see them. And some will continue to see ghosts and NOT be able to shut it down or turn it off.
So the next time your son or daughter tells you there is something under the bed or in the corner of the room, give them the benefit of the doubt – don’t tell them they are being silly or discount the fact that it doesn’t exist because YOU can’t see it.
