We were at our annual Edmonton Bone-Wagon BBQ in August and having a great time with friends and food, when I decided to take a lot of pictures all at once in a certain area of the yard. And guess what – I captured a beautiful large yellow orb. I had other pictures from the BBQ with orbs in them, but not with such clarity and colour.
In the photo, I enlarged the orb and also turned it 180˚ and sharpened the small pic.
We always get asked what the colour of orbs mean. I can’t say I know for sure, and either can anyone else. We can guess. I like to think the colours correspond to the same colours in the human aura/chakras.
The guide is not an official endorsement of the colour of the orbs. But you can get a general idea from it. I think the spirit orb was/is an intelligent spirit looking for fun and enjoying the conversations we were having.

In March 2006, Ben and I (Paranormal Rona) went to Victoria, B.C. for a vacation and a chance to check out all the haunted places it has.
We stayed in the Bedford Regency, for 2 nights in the suite that is purported to be haunted by a woman (a mobster’s girlfriend). I felt no presence of a woman there but did get an interesting picture in the sitting room of something… There definitely was a presence in the hallway, however. I constantly heard things going on, such as footsteps outside and someone near the door, and then when I would go to the door to look, nothing was there.
We took a walking ghost tour with historian and author John Adams, and also had the privilege of attending his Ghost Dinner on the Princess Mary boat turned into restaurant. We had some amazing luck with dowsing rods which went absolutely crazy in the kitchen area. Our one picture of the lady sitting at our table ended up revealing a man seated behind her, which was amazing because everyone was accounted for and no one was sitting back in that area.
We shared some of our ghost hunting experiences with the people at the dinner and displayed the gadgets and tools we use.
The Maritime Museum of British Columbia dominates Bastion Square in the heart of Old Town. Once the site of public hangings, the museum is open daily, and the ghost of Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie, the “hanging judge,” is often seen.
Rogers Chocolates at 913 Government Street in Old Town is a National Historic Site. It is also Victoria’s oldest, most famous and most haunted chocolate shop. The owners say look for the ghosts of Charles and Leah Rogers, the founders, who often slept in the kitchen of their old store and who reputedly never left. Great chocolate!
Old Morris Tobacconists, 1116 Government Street, is a heritage building that contains its original polished wood cabinets, onyx pillars and leaded glass entrance dome. It is haunted by the ghost of a former employee, who died suddenly in the upstairs workshop. His footsteps and the sound of cupboard doors opening and closing are often heard when no one is upstairs. It’s a wonderful shop and the owner and staff are very friendly. You can ask them questions about their ghost with whom they are very protective of. Ben bought me a beautiful Meerschaum pipe with a carved lion’s head and a mythological type body.
Bastion Square and Helmcken Alley in the heart of Victoria’s Old Town is the most haunted part of Victoria. Almost every building around the historic square has a ghost or two. The Maritime Museum of British Columbia, located in the old Supreme Court building, is said to be the most haunted of them all due to the fact is was built on the site of the city’s first gallows and many of the men who were hanged still lie buried beneath its foundations. Helmcken Alley leads away from Bastion Square and has the reputation for being just as haunted.
On our tour, John led us to a back alley of a large building. I can’t remember the history of it now but when we took pictures, a weird hand shape appeared on a window. It looked like a hand, but upside down.
Market Square and Chinatown have many stories of ghosts and the supernatural. Their secret tunnels are probably only myths, but their hauntings are very real. Fan Tan Alley was unusual to walk through and it has quaint little shops to visit. It does give off the strange feelings of pirates who could have walked down these dark narrow alleyways. I was drawn to the window of an abandoned lobby and looking through it, I sensed a boy’s spirit playing around the fountain in the lobby. This was a window in an alley near the Fan Tan alley. I don’t know what building I was looking into from the back, but it looked like no one used it anymore.
Ghostly Walks with John Adams, explores the haunted alleys and courtyards of downtown Victoria. These popular 90-minute walks take place all year, with extra tours for the Ghosts of Victoria Festival. It’s a fun experience and John is one of the best Ghost/Historical tour guides in Canada, so don’t miss it! John is on Facebook and Twitter.
During the Summer season (May 1st – November 1st) Ghostly Walks take place every night starting from the Visitor Information Centre, 812 Wharf Street, Victoria
NOTE: The Princess Mary Ship is apparently no more. Very sad. We think it was disassembled many years ago.
(Cloudy, 16˚C) By Ben Myckan, Paranormal Explorers
We did an investigation at the Lac La Biche Mission on June 25, 2005 and experienced a few glitches during that time – a four camera system did not record for some strange reason, a small digital camera was lost and a $20 bill was lost – where there wasn’t any people around (just in case you’re thinking “hmm, really?” Yes, they take objects AND money).
The rectory, church and nunnery were the focus of our investigation. We did not check any other buildings on the site (schoolhouse, residence & main office, chicken coop) but did venture across the road from the Mission to a cemetery. Rona felt a room at the back of the church was used for clandestine affairs (could have been recent, not back in history). The nun’s bedroom on the 3rd floor of the nunnery where the children dormitory is had loads of dead flies and Rona was sensitive to activity in the area and had an impression of a small girl called Clara. But with the failed camera system we got nothing other than orbs and I think the sound recordings were mostly done in the rectory.
I did not have the infrared cameras at the time of that investigation so expect better results in future investigations. I personally didn’t spend much time in the rectory but others in the group did because Rona felt there was a young priest who was questioning coming to the mission and was having second thoughts about his vocation. He was “sorry he ever came to this god-forsaken place”.
Sexual confusion was also experienced among the male priests. The dining room was a negative and oppressive place to be. Women were not allowed in the rectory and Mission staff indicate feedback from female visitors touring the rectory get the feeling that they are not welcome there. More questions than answers were raised which can only be solved by further investigation.
We went back to the Mission on November 2nd, 2005 to shoot an episode with Creepy Canada. This time, we spent a lot of time in the rectory. Lac la Biche Mission is full of spirits, especially in the rectory where the priests resided. When we set up the infrared camera, immediately, orbs began traveling straight to us and the camera. We captured ectoplasm at least twice on camera. It wasn’t our breath, even though it was cool in the rectory. When we asked if the spirits could produce the ectoplasm again, some more appeared in front of the camera immediately.
NOTE: The Lac La Biche Rectory building was constructed in the early 1920’s and sadly, burned down in 2009.
The Paranormal Explorers went to a house in a small town in Alberta to help a family out who were experiencing what they felt was disturbing paranormal activity. I (Paranormal Rona) went down into the basement with my nifty Bell+Howell S7 Night vision camera. Now usually people who have spirits acting up in their house think there is something negative or scary equated with these ghosts. Not really the case, 99% of the time.
In the basement the Bell+Howell recorded this video. If you watch carefully you will see what appears to be a very large orb come sailing out of the door in the first 6 seconds of the video. It then splits apart into 2 orbs. Those 2 spirits were an older couple who were hiding out in the basement. They had never left the basement and were a little embarrassed that I had found them. The spirit that was causing the trouble appears right after them. It’s quick so watch very carefully.
There are other spirits, orbs or spirit balls in the video, but they are what I call “in and outs”. Everyone has at least one spirit or more coming through their house, apartment, condo, at one point in the day. All they are doing is seeing what YOU are doing. Then they leave and go to the next place.
They are not there to bother you or haunt you. Some could be family members who have passed, but usually they are strangers and they are just interested in your activities and conversations.
Throughout all of our years as investigators of ghost/spirit phenomena, we have seen a LOT of orbs, in pictures, video and some with our own eyes. They come in different colours, brightnesses, different locations and we have found human and animal faces in some of them.
Usually, orbs have a roundish shape to them with an aura around the outside and a rather nucleic mass looking centre. But there are exceptions. Like these orb pictures:
The Dandlelion spokes picture does look like it could be some kind of seed spores, right? Well, we took dandelion puffs and other type flower/tree fluff and did lots of photo experiments with them. None of the pictures looked like these. NONE. Otherwise I wouldn’t post it here.
If you have any unusual orb pictures, please send them into us. We would love to see them!!
