History of building

Turn of the century building, used to be a carriage house at one time. Owned at one time by Scott W.J. and Son Carriage Parts. More historical data needed. In the last 5-8 years, gone through many businesses.

Staff have reported different phenomena at different times of the day and night:

  • Shoulders have been touched
  • Hair pulled
  • Ashtrays pushed off edge of tables
  • Extreme drop in temperature changes in certain areas
  • Bottles and glasses rearranging themselves
  • Bottles clanking together
  • Distinct outline of a person appeared behind a curtain and no one was there
  • Black shadows seen going across the wall
  • Black wraith-like shadow passed between two people talking
  • Lights going on and off with no one touching the switch
  • Sounds of a person going up and down the stairs

Note: Pictures of upstairs lounge area on eastside show human face poking through the curtain and some kind of animal type face like a rabbit in the wall. This was discovered one week after the investigation. There was also a knock downstairs from behind the bar during the middle of the investigation. There was no activity that we could determine in the crawl space or in the storage area in back of kitchen. Rona had some feeling something was “there” in the right side staircase but nothing concrete.

Megan interviewed Darin and got his thoughts, the reports from his staff, and some facts about the building. While she was interviewing him, Rona wrote down her impressions of “what” was in the room.

Man, 35-40 years:

  • Dapperly dressed, pressed suit (plaid or pattern on it)
  • High collar white shirt with tie
  • Brown hair, black-brown eyes and mustache
  • Very picky, dark, brooding, fastidious, likes everything in it’s place.

We called him Dapper Dan!

After Megan finished interview with Darin, Megan and I compared notes on the entity in the main part of the bar. Megan had also picked much of the same characteristics. Darin stated that the stairwell to the right of the bar was the one where the most activity happened. I had a definite pull to the other stairwell and I felt something either wanted to come down the stairs or was up the stairs.

Greatest pull was here. When I started up the stairs I had a feeling of oppression. There was a feeling also of “you shouldn’t come up here”. At this time Megan was at the bottom of the stairs and she called to me to move to the other side of the stairs. I didn’t know why at the time. When I got to the top I had started to take a couple of pictures, then I swung around sharply and snapped a picture going down the stairs. When I checked on the screen for what I had, I saw I had captured a vortex cascading across the picture screen.

Megan then told me she wanted me to move to the other side of the stairs because a black shadow was coming up the wall behind me.

Megan was doing a “sit” at the top of the roof top stairs to see if she could pick anything up. I had gone over to the other staircase to take some EVP recordings. When I came over to her staircase she was starting to come down. Morgan and I decided to go up the stairs and open the door to the roof. We tried the latch several times and it would not budge. It was like it had been welded together. Then we had commented that we should get Darin to give us a hammer so we could give it a couple of blows to loosen it, when a huge “thud” came through from the other side of the steel door. It took us completely by surprise.

Note: The thud apparently was not captured on tape.

The impression that I have of this entity is that it is not truly human-like. It is trapped in this one area and can’t go to the other parts of the building. There is a lot of despair and anger coming from it.

Sitting in the upstairs lounge trying to tap into whatever resides in the building. The only impression I could get is the name “rabbit” or “bunny”. Don’t know quite what this means. Nickname? Someone had a hutch of rabbits on the roof at one time? This person killed the animals up there with a baseball bat or some kind of thick wood object and bashed them through their wire cages. Now they are attached together.

There were 2 female spirits also residing in the Guilty as well as the fractured “not-human-like” spirit in the stairwell.

Tower of London & Hampton Court Palace

Wow, the Tower of London!

A place that is haunted but the spirits are very mischievous and are always one room ahead or behind you. My favorite parts are the Ravens outside. Thor is the main guy and it is fun to watch him strut around as if he is in charge of the whole place. Makes you think he is a reincarnated King in a bird’s body.

Lots of tourists are at the Tower; unfortunately it makes it slightly difficult to pick up clear images of spirits in the buildings. I took quite a few pictures and we did capture some strange things. 2 of the pictures were taken by my sister Corey, who lives in London.

Highly recommended you visit this attraction if you are interested in history or ghosts!

Hampton Court Palace

We had to go to Hampton Court to see where the famous Hampton Court ghost closed the open emergency doors in the famous video.

The Palace is a phenomenal structure and the gardens are absolutely out of this world. We were not allowed to take photos inside most parts of the palace. So unfortunately in the rooms where I had strong impressions, we could not record with a camera to see if we could capture phenomena unseen to the naked eye.

In the Queen’s State area my throat became constricted and I lost my voice for 5 minutes. There was an upset female soul who came through and was scared and repeating “You have to make him understand. He is wrong, I know.” Then near the end of the Queen’s area there was a threatening female spirit near the Queen’s bedchamber, hunched over saying “Get out of my house.”

There is a corridor outside the building that takes you to a washroom area. In that corridor (Lower Orangery) I was pulled toward this one window and had the impression of a distraught woman with the phrase “I didn’t know it would happen” repeating over and over again. She gazes out onto the courtyard, and is filled with massive amounts of guilt. That is probably what is keeping her here on earth.

If you notice in the gallery, the picture that shows Ben and Rona sitting in front of one of the doors leading out of part of the building, has tiny visible piece of uniform behind them. It is at a strange height and the photographer never saw anyone in the doorway or behind the couple.

The Edinburgh Ghost Fest – A Bloody Good Time!

Blair Street and Niddry Vaults

We went on the overnight Vaults Vigil held in the Blair Street Vaults in Edinburgh. As part of the first year of the Mary King’s Ghost Fest, we were privileged to have seen both the Blair Street Vaults and the Niddry Vault. The event was run by Mercat Tours and the two guides who helped facilitate our stay were Gary and Emma. They were very helpful, friendly and well-learned about the historical facts.

First we walked through the Cowgate Close to see the Niddry Vault. I was busy taking pictures in the vault when I had a sharp blinding pain on the right side of my head and then an impression of a man who was bludgeoned to death in that particular area. I knew there was some energy around so I took lots of pictures and did capture an orb present with us in the vault. From there, Gary took us walking over to a non-descript building (meanwhile my head thankfully cleared up once we were outside) and entered into the most haunted Blair Street Vaults!

We were split into groups of six and really liked the group we were in. Three people in the group didn’t have equipment but they had eyes and ears and senses so they let us know when they heard or felt something. John and Mel, the friendly husband and wife couple from Edinburgh, were equipment-less but had a lot of things happening to them. In one room Mel kept having one of her arms go cold and numb on her. They could also smell different things like pipe smoke and a floral smell. I unfortunately can’t remember the other two ladies names in our group, but they were very patient and fast-learning ghost hunters. The one girl from Australia with a camera was getting some amazing orbs in her pictures.

All of the groups were able to explore each room in the vault and then we got to pick which one we wanted to do a vigil in. Some people in other groups were getting fantastic manifestation pictures. We were getting a little frustrated and jealous (just kidding). However, when you have a digital camera, you can’t always see everything that your camera has caught. So you have to learn patience as a ghost hunter and know that you will get something if you are open to it.

In one of the rooms I had an instant impression of a shirtless man in his early to mid-twenties dressed only in dark long pants. He had shoulder length sweaty hair and his face reminded me of the actor Robert Carlyle. He was very wiry and was a bare-knuckle fighter back in the early 1700’s. These were not ordinary boxing matches, they always fought to the death. This spirit was a very successful boxer, so all the gamblers coming to the vaults would bet on him. John, who laid down on his mat in this room, managed to get his forehead slapped by some entity.

I could not get any other clear impressions of people who had once lived down there as there were too many people in the vaults. The strange thing that happened to our group every time we moved to a different room in the vaults is the temperature would drop after the first 5-8 minutes we were in there. And it wasn’t our imagination, we took temperature readings every time, and the drops were sometimes up to a 10 degree difference. In one room, we started to see our breath after being in there for more than 10 minutes.

We were happy with the outcome of our vigil in the vaults after seeing the video footage and our pictures. Thanks to Mercat Tours, Gary and Emma, The Edinburgh Ghost Fest, and our four partners with us in the vault.

Edinburgh Mercat Ghost Hunter Tour

The night before, we went on the Mercat Ghost Hunter Tour. It leaves the Royal Mile (you meet at the Mercat Cross) and winds through the sinister, dark ‘closes’ of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town and into Greyfriar’s Graveyard. It then enters the permanently locked Covenanters Prison which contains the Black Mausoleum – site of the famous MacKenzie Poltergeist. We had a fun tour guide and never got to experience the poltergeist but had plenty of energy in the tomb. We captured a few pictures of orbs in the mausoleum. Unfortunately our tour started at 8:30 so it wasn’t very dark at the time. But we managed to have some darkness near the end that made conditions favourable.
